10 Must Know Thrifting Tips & Tricks 

Thrifting is such a fun experience with an amazing thrill when you find something you love. However, it can be quite overwhelming sometimes. Use these 10 tips and tricks to help you have the best experience thrifting and find more that you love. 

1. Have a list of items you want to look for

Having a list helps you stay on track and not end up with extra things that you don’t need. Keep this as a running list for every time you go. It will be easier to shop when you know what to look for. 

2. Shop the racks of items they are putting out 

Usually employees are always out putting new items on the racks. They bring out portable racks with clothes- shop those! Those have the newest items that haven't been put out yet so there is a opportunity for great finds!

3. Only buy what you love

It can be so easy to get caught up in good deals when thrifting! Make sure you are only buying items you love and see yourself getting good use from. I know I have bought things because it was a name brand and a good deal, but never ended up wearing it because it wasn't something I loved. 

4. Shop the dressing room  put back items 

There is typically a rack of items near the dressing room that people tried on and decided not to get. This is a great place to check because sometimes people find really cute clothes but they just don't fit them. You never know if you could find something that didn't work for someone else but is perfect for you!

5. Check for stains

I know this sounds silly but it can be easy to forget. Make sure to inspect an item you are thinking about buying before you purchase. 

6. Have a routine/sytem when in the store 

Thrift stores can be large and overwhelming. Create a system for what sections you shop first and follow it. For example, when I walk in I always check the glass case first, go straight to purses and then to the women's athletic wear and so on. This helps prevent you from feeling overwhelmed by the amount of items there are. Take it a section at a time. 

7. Go to an "upscale area" 

If you have a more upscale area near you, check their thrift stores. If the area is more "upscale" you might have a better chance finding luxury brand items. 

8. Shop the Men's section 

The Men's section is arguably my favorite section in a thrift. Mens sweatshirts and shirts are so comfortable! I love checking for name brand sweatshirts in this section. An oversized sweatshirt and cute shoes is always a fit. 

9. Go to the stores often

The more often you go, the more likely you are to find items. Visiting the thrifts as much as you can gives you the best chance for hitting the jack pot! 

10. Try to find the best time to go and when the store puts out the most inventory

If you can figure out when the thrift puts out the most new items, try to always go then. If you are having the most success on a certain day, keep going on that day and time.
